I made this video to help musician that aren’t a pianist or keyboardist because it’s so common to use virtual instruments in the DAW software of your choice.

To input a chord, either you have to use a MIDI Controller or using mouse to click the notes on Piano Roll or use virtual keyboard of your DAWs.

That’s why you need to know how to play a chord!

I know for some of you, it’s hard to learn about music theory so I didn’t include music theory in this video so you can play chords in keyboard right away.

To input a chord, either you have to use a MIDI Controller or using mouse to click the notes on Piano Roll or use virtual keyboard of your DAWs.

You only have to remember these simple rules:

  1.  You have to know the basic Major and minor triad chords (+dimished chord).
  2. From that basic triad chords, you only have to remember these:
    • To make a minor chord, play a Major chord and move your middle finger one semitone to the left
    • To make a Major chord, play a minor chord and move your middle finger one semitone to the right
    • To make a diminished chord, play a minor chord and move your pinky finger one semitone to the left
What I teach is only triad chords (meaning that the chord only consists of three notes). The form is in the root position (meaning the left note is the root of the chord). Usually, keyboardists play not only basic triad chords and different chord inversions. Maybe I will make a sequel video about Chord Inversion (please comment below if you need it)!

As the title suggests, by learning from this video, you can play 1500 songs.

  2. ‘Lean On Me’ by Bill Whithers
